What is ABOUTFACE?

ABOUTFACE is a Patients' and Carers' support group. It has merged with a National Charity called Facial Surgery Research Foundation

What is ABOUTFACE's aim?

ABOUTFACE aims at helping present and future patients and carers to live through a difficult part of their lives as they are coping with the treatment of Orofacial Cancers, Trauma and other facial deformities.

Why is ABOUTFACE needed?

It is because orafacial cancer and trauma can affect both appearance and function of the face and mouth. Even its successful treatment can affect the lives of patients and their loved ones. .

Who is behind ABOUTFACE?

Marlene Gaunt and her Phoenix Singers, fellow patients and their loved ones and the Support Group Director,Mr Leo Cheng, Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at St. Barts and The London Hospitals

How did ABOUTFACE start?

ABOUTFACE started with Marlene Gaunt's dramatic recovery from the rebuilding of her tongue after a cancer operation. She was able to regain her soprano singing when she appeared in the BBC's Songs of Praise, numerous TV news items and the Phoenix Singers' concert with Mr. Leo Cheng. These have encouraged Marlene and her Phoenix singers, and fellow patients with Orofacial cancers to organise this Patients' and Carers' support group to help others with cancers and facial deformities.
