A man who was forced to withdraw from the London Marathon due to illness will now run 15 miles from Newmarket Hospital to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. Paul Wright, 45, form Laureate Gardens, Newmarket, hopes to raise around £1,500 for the maxillo-facial unit at Addenbrooke's from the run he will do on Sunday morning. He wants to support the unit where his wife Karen, 40, has been treated for tongue cancer.
He was all prepared to tackle the marathon earlier this year but was forced to pull out a week before the event when he was found to have a low blood count.
Now Mr Wright, a production worker at Roneo Systems Furniture in Newmarket, has been given the go ahead by doctors to do his own special run for Addenbrooke's.
People who originally sponsored him for the marathon have agreed to give that same amount for this weekend's run.
Mr Wright and his wife will continue to collect sponsorship and donations until October 6. anyone wishing to give a donation should make cheques payable to Addenbrooke's Charities 9561 and send them to Mr & Mrs Wright at 31 Laureate Gardens, Newmarket.
