I am really thankful to Mr Cheng from deep inside for what he has done for me. I want to share my feelings and experience that I underwent before and after the operation.

I am a very healthy man with no concerns about my health in the past. This was the first time in my life when I was admitted to hospital. I was really scared when I first came to know that I have a cancer as cancer sounded as if I might die some time.

I was extremely nervous about being admitted into the hospital and the nervousness was compounded when I came to know that the operation, which I will undergo, would be roughly for 10 hours.

I was not willing to have an operation but with support from the family, I decided to have the operation. I was puzzled about my future; I was not sure whether this operation will cure or benefit me.

I have received extremely good care in the hospital and I started feeling at home. I really want to thank the nursing staff and doctors involved in my care as they did everything to make me comfortable.

Now after my operation and completing my radiotherapy, I feel like a normal man. I feel the same as I was before the operation. When I look at myself in the mirror I cannot believe that I had a very big operation.

My friends cannot believe that I had a very big operation as I feel and look absolutely normal. The only problem that I have at present is my speech, which is getting better day-by-day.

I am extremely thankful to Mr Cheng for giving me such a wonderful treatment and I should say a second life.

I would recommend this operation to all the patients who are in my state as I have got a second life because of it. Thanks a lot

Mr Dass had extensive cancer of most of his soft palate, back of his hard palate, tonsil and back of his tongue. His cancer was removed along with his neck glands and the defect was reconstructed with a free flap from his forearm. The defect at his forearm was then repaired with a skin graft from his groin region. He also had an artificial wind pipe during the operation and a feeding tube inserted directly into his stomach before his major operation. Mr Dass then received radiotherapy after his surgery. He is now planning to go home to visit his extended family in India.

(with the permission of Mr Dass to share the details of his cancer treatment)
